JV Boys – Celtics vs Aris
The Celtics started off this game half asleep as they allowed Team Aris to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Justin Sampson (Soph. Twinsburg) led the Celtics charging back as they cut the lead to four points by the 10 minute mark in the first half. Sampson and his relentless attacking style of play, could really get anywhere he wanted off the dribble as Aris had trouble matching up with his combination of speed, power and athleticism. Aris closed the half off with a 12-0 run en route to a 17 point halftime lead. Team Aris was led by Jack Shrimpe (Soph. Walsh Jesuit) who was all over the court on offense and defense. The picture below shows one of his several transition buckets. Ultimately Aris just wanted this one more as the Celtics failed to get this game under 20 points in the second half.
7th Grade Boys – OBC vs Summit Elite
Summit Elite and OBC came ready to play at the Edge this past Sunday. There was a different atmosphere around court #4 than any other game. The first half was a see saw battle of youngsters that did not want to give an inch. The game was not in hand until a furious run by OBC near the 7 minute mark put the contest out of reach for Summit. The final score was 47-32, however the final “diff” was not indicative of how close and hotly contested this game really was. Check out Logan Nash #5 for OBC on the drive below. OBC was led by Andy Barba #22, Lawson Nash #8 and Kenny McElrath #10.

8th Grade Boys – Dre vs Ohio Bucks
The only early game of the day saw two teams half asleep as neither could put the ball in the hoop for the first 10 minutes (4-2). At the midway point in the first half, a timeout was called as both coaches demanded that their kids WAKE UP! It must have worked as both teams were more energized and started to really play with Dre up 18-14 at the break. With the sluggish first half behind them the second half was a different story, Team Dre started to push the tempo and catch fire, specifically #6 Demetrius. He hit from the outside, inside, off the dribble every shot seemed to fall as he led Team Dre to a 60-37 win. Ohio Bucks saw their share of hot shooting too as Tommy #7 and Aaron #2 led the team in scoring with 14 and 10 points respectively.
8th Grade Boys – Youngstown Flash vs Cleveland Kings
By far the closest game of the day in the battle of Cleveland vs. Youngstown -one team had to come out on top. That team was not determined until the final buzzer sounded. Both of these groups of young men BATTLED for 40 minutes. No team enjoyed more than a 7 point lead at any time in this game. It was close the whole way. The picture below shows a three hit by Youngstown with about 7 minutes left to cut the Kings’ lead to a single point. Dow the stretch though #12 Mike for the Kings made too many big plays as he led all scorers with 19 points. Savion #2 complimented the effort with 14 points of his own for Cleveland. Youngstown Flash fought hard all the way to the end but their tremendous effort came up just barely on the short end as they were defeated 61-58.
7th Grade Boys – Cobras vs EBA Hoops
In a matchup of completely different types of teams EBA Hoops found themselves at a size disadvantage against the Cobras, however where they lacked size they more than made up for in speed! The Cobras were HUGE. With 4 posts taller than 5’10’’ they dominated the glass. Perhaps not ready for the guard play and speed of EBA Hoops, the Cobras looked out of sorts from the tip and they were down 18-8 at the 9:00 min mark of the first half, quickly after that though they got some easy buckets from their trees down low to cut the score to 22-18 at the break. Out of the half #24 Hvisdak hit a big three to give the Cobras their first lead at the 18:30 mark. After that point EBA turned up the tempo and continued the suffocating guard pressure not allowing the Cobras to take advantage of their size in the half court. Led by #0 Bydee, and #1 Jones EBA got turnovers and transition points all over the court and took command of this contest late in the second half cruising to a 43-39 win.

JV Boys – Reddy #1 vs Reddy #2
In the JV Boys Gene #1 vs Gene #2 met up this past Sunday. Gene #1 jumped out early to a 17-2 lead early, the full court pressure was giving the guards on gene #2 fits. But after the slow start gene #2 settled down and battled back into the game!!! Brandon Horton and Corvay Chapman combined for 5 2nd half 3pters to help cut the lead to 1. But, in the end Sincere Carry’s 26 points was the deciding factor with Gene #1 pulling away down the stretch for a 12 point win
